공연예술 의상에 나타난 문화상호주의에 관한 연구 : 국립극장 연극공연을 중심으로

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 논문은 공연예술 의상에 나타난 문화상호주의에 관한 연구로, 공연의상이 공연과 연출에서 보여주는 상징적 의미와 미적원리를 체계화하고, 문화상호주의 관점에서 공연예술 의상의 역할과 특성에 대한 이론적인 분석의 틀을 새롭게 제시한다.
본 연구를 위해 먼저 공연예술의 시각적 이미지에 나타난 문화적 특성을 알아보고, 공연예술에 나타난 문화상호주의 현상과 그 특성의 규명을 문헌자료를 중심으로 한 이론적 연구와 사례연구를 중심으로 한 실증적 연구를 병행하여 진행하였다.
연구를 위한 대상으로는 1990년부터 2009년까지 최근 20년간 국립극장에서 공연된 연극 중 문화상호적 공연을 가장 많이 연출한 연출가들의 작품으로 국내의 4작품, 해외의 2작품을 선정하고 공연예술 장르 중 연극을 연구범위로 선정하였다.
작품의 분석을 위해 먼저 <부록>에 수록된 공연 자료표를 작성한 후 현재 국내에서 활발하게 활동하고 있는 연출가 2명의 작품과 외국의 연출가 2명의 작품을 선택하였으며, 작품에 나타난 공연의상의 문화상호주의 유형과 조형적 요소인 형태, 색상, 소재, 디테일 등에 따라 연출가에 따른 문화적 특성을 1차적으로 분석하였다. 분석된 1차 자료를 이용하여 공연예술 의상의 시각적 이미지에 나타난 조형 요소와 미학적 표현, 상징성과 공연예술 의상의 양상을 문화상호적 측면에서 살펴보았다. 이를 토대로 공연예술에 있어서 작품과 의상의 상관성과 연출가의 역할 및 공연예술 의상의 위상과 그 중요성을 확인하였으며, 국립극장 공연의상의 문화상호적 분석을 통해 국립극장의 공연의 국가적, 사회 문화적 역할과 책임의 중요성을 인식해 보고자 하였다.
본 연구의 결론 및 제언은 다음과 같다.
첫째, 국립극장에서 공연된 작품의 공연의상은 연출가에 따라 약간의 차이는 있지만 문화의 상호교류를 통한 해체와 재해석이라는 공통점을 가지고 있다.
둘째, 시각적 요소이자 주목할 만한 무대언어로서의 공연의상은 문화상호적 특성이 다른 어떤 무대의 요소보다 잘 나타나 있음을 알 수 있었다.
셋째, 결국 공연의상은 다양한 관점에서 새로운 의미체계와 가치를 제시하며, 현재는 연출가의 의도와 역할에 따라 상징성과 새로운 미적체계를 완성할 수 있다.
넷째, 그러므로 연출자와 의상디자이너 사이의 충분한 커뮤니케이션을 통한 표현방법의 범위를 확대해 나가야 할 것이며 의상디자이너는 좀 더 포괄적인 의미에서의 충분한 연구와 적극적인 표현의 방법을 모색해야 할 것이다.
다섯째, 공연의상 제작 후 의상의 활용방안과 보관 및 체계적인 정리와 데이터베이스 구축이 필요하다.
여섯째, 작품의 사실성을 극대화하기위한 방안으로 각각의 작품에 등장하는 인물과 공연의상을 미니어처로 제작하여 보관한다면 공연예술분야에서 무대미술의 연구와 발전에 도움이 될 것으로 여겨진다.
일곱째, 국립극장은 국가를 대표하는 상징기관으로서 국가문화 이미지 확립 및 질 좋은 문화상품 보급을 위해 전문적이고 복합적인 기획 및 연출을 하여야 한다. 그렇게 함으로써 예술성이 상호 균형 조화를 이루며 국가 경쟁력을 확보할 수 있고 국민문화 정서함양에 기여 할 수 있을 것이다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

This dissertation is a study on the interculturalism in performing arts costumes. The main areas of study are as follows; First, the symbolic meaning and aesthetic principle of stage costumes in plays or dramatic presentations will be systematized. Second, the theoretical analysis on the roles and the characteristics of performing arts costumes influenced by the interculturalism will be introduced afresh.
For this study, the cultural characteristics on visual images of performing arts are studied and the intercultural phenomena of the performing arts which showed in the National Theater in last twenty years, among those which were recognized as successful intercultural performances are investigated. The author classified and systemized the intercultural symbolism of stage costumes and found out the role and the importance of stage costumes concerning their intercultural characteristics based on both theoretical approach and practical approach to four domestic plays and two foreign plays.
The conclusions of this dissertation and future prospect are as follows;
1) Performance costumes of plays appeared in the National Theater had a common sense in de-constructing and re-constructing interculturalism, even though all plays differ in degree of deconstruction and reconstruction, depending on its producer.
2) As a visual factor, performance costume was shown superior to other factors in play in expressing intercultural features.
3) Performance costume can suggest a new point of view under various aspects, making a metaphor intended by a producer, and to build a new artistic system.
4) The close communication in producers and fashion designers, therefore, is required to make more expressive ways in plays, and the fashion designers are supposed to examine and design performance costume actively.
5) It is necessary to manage a database system to use stage costume properly after producing a play.
6) To build miniatures of each character in performance costume is advised to help stage costume in the performing arts for the future.
7) The National Theater should plan and produce well-organized professional performances to create national artistic images toward the world and to distribute qualified performances as a representative Korean organization.
Under these circumstances, we could balance artistry of the performances and economical competitiveness over nations and contribute to strengthen the culture of aesthetic sentiments.
