      To accept folk remedies in view of oriental medicine and to use as one of social health materials, I have looked for the phase institution of folk remedies in the oriental medicine and their adopting method to the oriental medicine, on the basis of the present social-communicating situation, the degree of interest in folk remedies among people and oriental medicine doctors and the content of folk remedies in Dongyibogam(東醫寶鑑). The results are following,
      1. The folk remedy is a convenient and useful treatment but it has a possibility of misusing by the choice without specialty and can cause a side effect by its unified effects. It mainly includes a medicinal diet(medicinal wine, food), a simple treatment(medicinal herbs) and other things(exercise, massage, bathing), which can be performed conveniently and practically in our life.
      2. In the present social-communicating situation of the folk remedies, we can say there is no responsible main group of it. When we look for recent published remedy books, their authors' background is too various. The folk remedy only focuses on the generality but it does not understand the problem of misusing with lack of explanation and classification in view of the oriental medicine. In conclusion, current folk remedies have formed a figure out of irresponsibility.
      3. On the ground of researches in social consciousness about the folk remedies, both of them, people and oriental medicine doctors. feel strongly the relative importance and the necessity of the folk remedies. But the folk remedy had not groped for proper adoption and not shared in the benefits actually. Therefore the oriental medicine doctors present a direct guide for use. instead of leaving people to use improperly. And the oriental medicine doctors are in need of making a guide for efficient use of the folk remedies at the existing disease types.
      4. The researches of relative importance in the folk remedy's meaning of Dongyibogam(東醫寶鑑) show that the proper use can help disease cured, not by unconditional choice but by symptoms. The use of folk remedies are different from the prescription in the oriental medicine, as showing the type and ratio of folk remedies and prescriptions in Dongyibogam(東醫寶鑑).
      5. When considering used materials, forms and time in the meaningful content of folk remedies in Dongyibogam(東醫寶鑑), they established two categories. One is radical treatment on acute disease by short-term use. The other is slow treatment on chronic disease by long-term use. For wide application to people, they also had the prudent attitude to accept symptom-oriented treatment and tried to connect with syndrome which needed diagnosis as precisely as possible.
      6. The phase institution of folk remedies and the value of social application should not be considered as simple assistant treatment according to western thought, because folk remedies have its own subjective meaning on the basis of patient-oriented treatment. The value of social application has the two accompanied meaning. One is disease preventive role through the connection to health care and medical care. The other is the role in treating and caring aspect.
      7. There are two difficulties in acceptance of folk remedies. One is to make the folk remedies the center of knowledge instead of insufficiency of specialty. The other is user's lack of specialty because common people. not a specialist. are main subject. Furthermore these two difficulties are complicated.
      8. For the preparatory work of acceptance of folk remedies. we need the active participation of oriental medicine doctors and making a practical guide for oriental medicine doctors. For these, two things should be completed in advance. One is theoretical linking work to minimize the side effect by linking to syndrome. not to symptoms. The other is clinical linking work for additional effect by classifying the selection of used materials and used time.
      9. In acceptance of folk remedies which are appled by symptoms, oriental medicine doctors should collect and rearrange it with oriental medical method. They also should make effect-verification. The practical folk remedy model should be established.
      10. The acceptance method of folk remedies can be established by the three different types. It depends how much the oriental medicine tries to accept. the folk remedies. The three different types are the independent effect, the substitutional effect and the combined effect. The method of the independent effect emphasizes on the extreme effect or the cure effect by the meaning in health care. It is different that the oriental medicine emphasizes on the direct and mild effect. The method of the substitutional effect is simple and easy use in the folk remedies. And it is expected to have an effect in the part of oriental medicine. But its effect is not more concentrated than the oriental medicine. The method of the combined effect has the meaning to treat the slight and secondary side in disease by just single use. But it can cure the heavy and main side in disease by complex use with the medicine treatment.
