      A Study on the curriculum for cultivation of broadcasting audiovisual archivists

      Along with the age of amalgamation of broadcasting & communication of the 21st century since the 1950s, the broadcasting audiovisual archives that are being displayed in multi-channel and multimedia have not only the characteristics of delivering the facts at the time of their production but also historical, cultural, social and economical values that broadcasting audiovisual have influence after the production. Accordingly, the preservation of broadcasting audiovisual archives is urgently needed.
      Broadcasting audiovisual archives require attention in managing them according to their media characteristics. Archivists who received professional education are needed to understand the media characteristics of broadcasting audiovisual archives and manage them accordingly. However, it can be said that cultivating the professionals is absolutely needed since specialized facilities or curriculum for broadcasting audiovisual archives do not exist in Korea as of now.
      Accordingly, this study sought to discuss a plan for cultivating broadcasting audiovisual archivists who can professionally managed broadcasting audiovisual archives focusing on the curriculum.
      Audiovisual archives are already being managed systematically at overseas as they are recognized as cultural assets and audiovisual archives are being managed by professional audiovisual archivists. And professional archivists are being cultivated as the curriculum for cultivating audiovisual archivists has been presented.
      The state of things in Korea is that the organizations or curriculum for cultivating professional archivists do not exist like in oversea. There was a curriculum for cultivating broadcasting audiovisual archivists conducted for 4 days in August 2005 at the broadcasting learning center of Korean Broadcasting Institute. Also, several universities introduced a course with the subject of audiovisual and it is currently being conducted or has been discontinued. However, it can be said that cultivating broadcasting audiovisual archivists through the existing curriculum is very insufficient.
      To solve such problem, organizations for cultivating broadcasting audiovisual archivists are needed first of all. Namely, the academies at which the education on broadcasting audiovisual archive management is being conducted need to be established. And the curriculum of various methods should be conducted according to the establishment of academies. A concrete curriculum should be composed in order to cultivate broadcasting audiovisual archivists in such structure.
