아동이 지각한 부모의 언어통제유형과 아동의 자기결정동기에 관한 연구 = A study on the parents' verbal control modes and the self- determination motivation of children

국문 초록 (Abstract)

년간 학교라는 울타리 안에서 도예 공부와 작업만을 해오던 제게 심리치료라는 학문은 매우 흥미로우면서도 선뜻 도전하기 두렵고 낯선 분야였습니다. 그래서 이 논문을 완성하게 된 지금에 이르기까지의 과정은 제게는 기적과도 같으며, 이것을 가능케 도움주신 고마운 분들께 이 지면을 빌어 감사의 인사를 드립니다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

The purpose of this study was to investigate the difference of the children's self-determination motivation according to parents' verbal control modes perceived by their child and the influence of parents' verbal control on the self-determination motivation of children as the distinction of sex.
The subjects were 560 students in the 5th and 6th grades of the elementary schools in Seoul and GyeongGi-do area.
As measuring instruments, parents' verbal control modes were used for this study, which were based on Bernstein(1971), invested by Gumperz(1973) and Lee Kyung Hee(1993), and modified as measuring instrument by Lee, Jong Hun(2000). For measuring the self-determination motivation, Korean Academic Self-regulation Questionnaire was used for this study, which was based on the self-determination theory, made by Kim(2002), and used by Kim, Eun Young(2007).
The collected data were analyzed by the statistical program SPSS 12.0. MANOVA(Multivariate Analysis of Variance) and Scheffe post hoc tests were conducted to see the difference between the dependent variable according to the parents' verbal control modes. Moreover, Pearson's correlation and multiple regression were conducted to examine the influence of the parents' verbal control on children's self-determination motivation.
The results of this study are as follows.
First, by examining the parents' verbal control modes perceived by children, it was found that both boys and girls perceived their parents' verbal control mode to be position-oriented. Moreover, there was the difference in the parents' verbal control modes according to the distinction of sex. In other words, it was found that both parents used an imperative mode to boys, and a person-oriented mode to girls.
Second, there was a difference in children's self-determination motivation according to the parents' verbal control modes. Namely, in case of imperative verbal control mode, the level of children's self-determination motivation was low. Additionally, there was a difference in self-determination motivation according to the sex. That is, the level of boys' self-determination motivation was high in case of father's position-oriented mode and mother's person-oriented mode, whereas the level of girls' self-determination motivation was high in case of both parent' person-oriented mode.
Third, the parents' verbal control had a comparative influence on children's self-determination motivation. As demonstrated in detail, parents' imperative verbal control had a negative effect on children's self-determination motivation, father's position-oriented verbal control had a positive effect on the boys' self-determination motivation, father's imperative verbal control had the greatest negative influence on girls' self-determination motivation, and father's person-oriented verbal control had the greatest positive influence on girls' self-determination motivation. Moreover, mother's person-oriented verbal control had a positive effect on children's self-determination motivation, and especially, boys' self-determination motivation was more influenced by mother's verbal control than that of father.
The result of this study suggests that there is a difference in the self-determination motivation of children according to parents' verbal control modes, and parents' verbal control is an important factor which has an influence on children's self-determination motivation.
