Digital ‘Convergence’ attempting to integrate heterogeneous data, information and knowledge produced by mass production infra in the era of industrialization on the basis of media and contents stratum while modifying those elements into homogeneous pattern of bundle of 0 and 1 is sure to be a dominant stream leading the industry of culture contents. However, the existing discourses about 'Convergence' have been so excessively focused on 'Media Convergence' at a technological level that they are overlooking the spectrum of generative meaning contributing to value creation of a variety of culture contents subsequent to the convergence at a level of contents, which gives rise to disharmony and noise between media and contents ranging from the developmental stage to the end consumption stage of contents and also insures an immense obstacles to the original creation of convergence contents which can afford an excellent competitive strength. Accordingly, this research paper is obviously aimed at turning the stream of political discourse rushing toward the media-directed convergence into a content-oriented one by defining and analyzing convergence contents at a new angle, which are set up as this research target and scope as well to tide over such a habitual evil.
This research did a priority job on defining the contents created on relationship between the characteristics of heterogeneous genre and the binary opposition that contents attributes have as ‘Convergence Contents.’
Next, this research looked into the concept of convergence and its extension and compared and analyzed work, TEXT and contents. In addition, this research basically grasped the theoretical background supporting convergence and contents from intertextuality and syncretic semiotics. To intercept overly theoretical conceptualization, this research sorted the convergence contents which are getting a greater limelight from contents industry sites by sector, and analyzed the structure of generative meaning intrinsic in these systems in terms of binary opposition. In short, this research captured the principle of generative meaning flowing in the depths of developmental aspects of Convergence Contents appearing in-between a variety of genres using the mesh of structural semiotics. Particularly, this research contemplated anew the aspects related to the model of the existing generative meaning at a viewpoint of BOAC (Binary Opposition as a Creativity).
In addition, this research adopted its theoretical base from the structural semiotics of Paris school having research directivity on the whole of the 'meaning' rather than the theory on 'sign'. It's because the structural semiotics of Paris school, setting up the meaning of discourse as its research and analysis, is considered to be appropriate as conceptual frameworks capturing syncretic sign consisting of story and visual just like culture contents, and the generative structure of meaning for Convergence Contents.
Prior to aggressively examining arguments related to the model for generative meaning of Paris School which is also called Greimas School, this research went through with the examination of the orgin, establishment and emergence of binary opposition with the aim to make an in-depth grasp of the potential of a diverse generative meanings the binary opposition has. In addition, this research also analyzed the research outcomes of Vladmir Propp and Claude Levi-Strauss having an influence on Greimas at a viewpoint of paradigmatic imagination and syntagmatic imagination-two axes of semiotic generative meaning.
In an aggressive analysis of Greimas' model for generative meaning, this research did study on the concept and meaning, such as isotope, actant, figure, and semiotic square in a critical view. In addition, based on this, this research proposed GSMC model, which is the one for a new model optimized to the creation of Convergence Contents by connecting the arguments derived from Greimas'model for generative meaning to narrative-creating elements which play an essential role in creating contents, together with a brief analysis case of the model. This new model has the aim to tide over its congenial abstruseness and abstraction of Greimas model for generative meaning an outcome of Paris School originating from structural linguistics. In other words, the deduction of a model for generative meaning available to effectively applying to culture contents sites could be safely said to be derived from the significance and purpose of this research for solidifying a basic creative strength in culture contents ecology circles.
