경남 마산 지역의 친일의혹 인물과 기념 사업 논쟁 : 이은상·조두남·장지연을 중심으로

국문 초록 (Abstract)

경남 마산지역에서는 <가고파>를 지은 이은상과 <선구자>의 조두남, 「시일야방성대곡」의 장지연을 지역을 빛낸 위인으로 지정해 여러 가지 기념사업을 추진했다. 1999년 8월 이은상기념관 건립과 2000년 조두남기념관 건립을 추진하던 마산시는 이들의 친일의혹이 대두되어 기념관 건립을 반대하는 여론으로 기념관 명칭 논란을 6년간 끌었다. 마산시 현동에 위치한 장지연의 묘소는 지방문화재(경상남도문화재 94호)로 지정되어 있고 현동에서 수정간 도로명도 장지연로이나, 이러한 기념사업들은 시민단체들과 마찰을 빚고 있으며, 장지연 묘소에 대한 문화재 지정 취소와 장지연로의 이름을 개명하기를 요구하고 있다. 2008년 4월 29일 민족문제 연구소 측에서 발표한 친일인명사전에 이은상은 포함되어 있지 않으나 조두남과 장지연이 포함되어 있는 상태이다.
본 연구의 목적은 경남 마산지역에서 활동한 이은상, 조두남, 장지연의 친일 의혹에 대한 논쟁을 정리해보고, 이들을 기념하기 위한 기념관의 명칭 문제와 앞으로 지역사회에 기여할 수 있는 기념관의 활용방안을 알아보고자 한다. 문학계의 이은상, 음악계의 조두남, 언론계의 장지연으로 각장을 나누어 신문기사, 논문, 단행본, 잡지 등을 참고하였다.
이 연구의 결론은 다음과 같다. 이은상, 조두남, 장지연이 과거에 친일행위를 했다면 친일한 모습과 기념비적인 공로를 모두 그들의 흔적이 남아있어 사람들이 찾는 곳에 알려야 한다. 적어도 지역민과 학생들이 지속적으로 관심을 가지고 평가 내릴 수 있도록 다양한 문화 컨텐츠를 개발해 지역 문화의 질적 향상에 도움이 되어야 할 것이다.
이 연구의 한계는 친일행위라는 문제의 성격상 자료의 부족과 경남지역에 더 많은 인물이 있음에도 불구하고 각 분야별 세 명으로 압축한 점, 그리고 기념사업의 활용방안에 대한 구체성이 떨어지는 점을 들 수 있다. `

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

In Masan area of Gyeongnam, several memorial projects have been forwarded as designating Lee Eun Sang who wrote <Gagopa>, Jo Doo Nam who composed <Seonguja>, and Jang Ji Yeon who wrote 「Siilyabangseongdaegok」 as great men glorifying the region. Masan-city that had planned to build a memorial museum of Lee Eun Sang in August, 1999, and a museum of Jo Doo Nam in 2000 has been stuck in a dispute on naming the memorial museums for six years because of the popular voice formed to prevent the construction due to their alleged pro-Japanese activities. Jang Ji Yeon’s graveyard located in Hyeon-dong of Masan-city has been designated as a local cultural property (The 94th Cultural Property of Gyeongsangnam-do), and the road from Hyeon-dong to Sujeong has been named as Jang Ji Yeon-Road; however, the ongoing projects face resistance from citizens’ groups, and they are demanding the cancellation of the graveyard designation as a cultural property and the renaming of the road. The biographical dictionary of pro-Japanese collaborators announced on April 29th of 2008 by Institute for Research in Collaborationist Activities does not include Lee Eun Sang but does contain Jo Doo Nam and Jang Ji Yeon.
The purpose of this study is to summarize the arguments for the alleged pro-Japanese activities of Lee Eun Sang, Jo Doo Nam, and Jang Ji Yeon who lived in Masan area of Gyeongnam and discuss the issues with the naming of these memorial museums and the plans to utilize these memorial museums for the greater benefits of the local community. Each chapter was devoted to Lee Eun Sang of the literature world, Jo Doo Nam of the musical world, and Jang Ji Yeon of the press world, and many newspaper articles, theses, books, and magazines were referenced.
The results of this study are as follows. If Lee Eun Sang, Jo Doo Nam, and Jang Ji Yeon did pro-Japanese activities, their pro-Japanese acts and also their memorable deeds should be informed to the places where their traces are and many people are visiting. Moreover, various cultural contents need to be developed so that the citizens and students can be constantly attentive to that issue and evaluate it and the regional culture can be qualitatively improved as well.
The limitations of this study are insufficient data on pro-Japanese activities, the limited selection of the three figures in those fields although there has been more in that area, and the lack of concreteness in methods for utilizing memorial projects.
