The analysis of how much people recognize the DMZ sightseeing resources and what we can do about it.

Tourism industry is a 21 century prospering industry which strengthens the understanding among nations and contributes to obtaining foreign currency.
Countries all over the world which recognize the importance of these tourism industries are prompting the promotion of tourism industries for the nations' economic development and culture exchanges.
To develop our tourism industry more, we have to understand the current situation and problems of tourism industry and find solutions to them.
So this study mainly focuses on how much people recognize DMZ, what we can do about it, what is necessary part to make DMZ a world first class sightseeing place, which agency should be the main body to manage the whole DMZ tour and reached the results.
Before going further, let me tell you that this study is not based on the tourists who are customers but based on the policy makers who are public servants.
To obtain the objective of this study, a careful theory consideration was done based on existing documents research and surveys were done on public servants who work at the tourism related sections (totaling six government agencies) and 185 questionnaires were used for actual analysis.
The summary of actual analysis is like this.
First, public servants who works at the tourism related sections have the basic information of DMZ but it turned out that they don't have much actual visiting experience and concrete information on DMZ.
From now on, the main body which manage the whole tour of DMZ has to analyze the present situation and problems and with that, on-site tour and special education are needed for public servants who work at tourism related sections.
Second, ministry of environment and ministry of culture and tourism should be the main body on the matter of utilizing DMZ and work together with local self-government to make DMZ sightseeing resources while having a careful review on developing DMZ biologically and environmentally with detailed plan and specialized agencies such as Korea National Tourism Organization and private organizations active participation is a must.
Third, to make DMZ a world first class tourism resources, it is necessary to PR our country's excellent sightseeing resources both home and abroad and do our best to develop attractive tourism items in the context of tourism infrastructure and programs.
For example, foreign tourists who want to visit DMZ have a hard time because they don't know visiting procedures and where and how they should apply.
Fourth, installing integrated managing agencies is necessary to promote DMZ sightseeing development and the Korean government has to upgrade DMZ tour by making the ministry of culture and tourism main body of DMZ tour and setting up special agency under the Prime Minister.
As this study shows, to make tourism industry (especially DMZ tour) prosper, active and timely governmental sightseeing policy which has an international tourism paradigm is a must.
Also, developing special abilities of public servants who works for government, metropolitan, self-governing cities is necessary and we all should do our utmost effort to develop attractive sightseeing contents and make them profitable. And then our efforts will contribute not only strengthening national competitiveness but also promoting regional economies.
