'Jeong-jae' is a sort of an ideological mean that refers to choreography or dances wishing for kings longevity and a nations safety and prosperity.
'Jeong-jae' that stems from Chinese imperial choreography has been divided into 'Dangak Jeongjae' and 'Hyangak Jeongjae' since Moonjong (1019-1083) period in Koryo dynasty.
'Dangak Jeongjae', introduced from Song dynasty in China, has profoundly affected Korean imperial choreography. The oldest five 'Dangak Jeongjae' still performed are called 'Five Greatest Songs(Ohdaegok)': 'Heonsundo', 'Sooyeonjang', 'Ohyangsun', 'Pohgoorak', and 'Yeonhwadae'.
Among the Five Greatest Songs, 'Pohgoorak' and 'Yeonhwadae' are the mostly reproduced and performed these days, however, 'Heonsundo' and 'Sooyeonjang' are less than those of the songs.
Under the backgrounds mentioned, 'Heonsundo', the oldest one among the Five Greatest Songs in the 'Dangak Jeongjae', was investigated in this study according to the era differences through literatures such as 'Koryoshaakji', 'Akhakkyeobum', 'Jeongjaemoodoholki', and 'Shinchukjinchanholki'.
As the result, it was found that the contents and performance configurations have been changed after the comparisons of the four literatures with 16 specified divisions in the same context had been conducted for the research.
Detailed explanations on performance configurations, compositions, lyrics, choreography and Beomrye, Moowon, Euimul and instruments, and clothes are below:
First, performance configurations in 'Jeongjaemoodoholki' and 'Shinchukjinchanholki' has been reduced compared to those in 'Koryoshaakji' and 'Akhakkyeobum'.
Second, 'Koryoshaakji' and 'Akhakkyeobum' both used Dangak in compositions, however, 'Jeongjaemoodoholki' and 'Shinchukjinchanholki' mostly used 'Yeominrak', 'Boherjaryung', and 'Hayngdangkyojoo' which were influenced by Dangak and Hyangak.
Third, there were no differences in lyrics in 'Koryoshaakji' and 'Akhakkyeobum' except some changes in names. In 'Jeongjaemoodoholki' and 'Shinchukjinchanholki', lyrics were reduced. Also there were more changes in Chinese characters in 'Shinchukjinchanholki' compared to those in 'Koryoshaakji', 'Akhakkyeobum' and 'Jeongjaemoodoholki'.
Forth, there was little distinct record on choreography and 'Beomrye' in 'Koryoshaakji', 'Jeongjaemoodoholki' and 'Shinchukjinchanholki', but specific record was found in 'Akhakkyeobum'.
Fifth, there were a lot of Moowon in 'Koryoshaakji' and 'Akhakkyeobum' including Euimul. On the other hand, Moowon was fairly reduced in 'Jeongjaemoodoholki' and 'Shinchukjinchanholki' because all Euimul was omitted except in Jookganja.
Sixth, there were totally 23 instruments in 'Koryoshaakji' and 'Akhakkyeobum': two Bongjookganja, two Ininjang, two Bongsun, two Yongsun, two Misun, two Jaksun, eight Jeongjeol, and three Kae: But only Jookganja was found in 'Jeongjaemoodoholki' and 'Shinchukjinchanholki'. There was record on Sundoban and table instruments in 'Akhakkyeobum', 'Jeongjaemoodoholki', and 'Shinchukjinchanholki', and only Sundoban was found in 'Koryoshaakji'.
In the volume eighth 'Akhakkyeobum', Yeoki clothes were concretely explained. There was no record on clothes in 'Jeongjaemoodoholki' but some was found in 'Shinchukjinchanholki', 'Jinyeoneuikye' and 'Jinchaneuikye' on 'Kakmooyeoryung' clothes.
According to the analysis mentioned, process and procedural configurations in 'Heonsundo' has been changed today. The reasons for those are from the characteristics of dynasties; 'Heonsundo' has reflected the each eras background and kings preferences when kings periods had been changed. It is supposed that the reasons were also from the contents and characteristics of 'Yeonhyang' that recorded 'Holki'.
Therefore, this thesis analyzed the assumed causes and effects of the changes by comparing changes in 'Heonsundo' according to chronological order. It is expected that this research could contribute to the work to inherit and develop 'Heonsundo'.
