The purpose of this study is to make and apply the philanthropic education program for prosocial behavior of children and to analyze the effects of the program in children's prosocial behavior.The philanthropic education program for this study was based on research about theories of the philanthropic education, prosocial behavior and practical knowledge about how to teach and what to teach in philanthropic education program in these days. The structure of the program was designed as structured experimental group program. And the content of this program is composed of concepts, tradition, objects, process, institutions regarding philanthropy, and finally practical behavior of it.81 4th grade children from three elementary schools were in experimental group, another 81 4th grade children from the same schools were in controlled group. While the experimental group was structured to undergo the philanthropic education program 6 times, the controlled group did not have any treatment. In order to find out the effects of the experiment, pre-test and post-test were done.For investigation tool, the inspection paper for prosocial behavior was used, which was translated and adjusted by Soo-Yeon Kim(1995). Statistical analysis was done using SPSS program, and was analysed by mixed design using Repeated Measure ANOVA.The results can be concluded as followings.The prosocial behavior of the experimental group increased comparing to the controlled group and also to the pre-test. This result means the program is effective developing prosocial behavior of children. In addition, the effectiveness appealed in all subordinate concepts of prosocial behavior. Especially, it was more effective in helping, cooperating, rescuing and comforting behavior.In conclusion, in the field of education of elementary school, the philanthropic education program is a way to improve children's prosocial behavior. And the prosocial behavior of children becomes a base on philanthropic activities that they'll do in the future, so is helpful to them growing up with will and sociality to participate in society as a good citizen.Over all, the study implies that discussions in taking root and revitalizing the philanthropic education to encourage prosocial behaviors of children by more efforts of family, community and school.
