This study was conducted to detect the stress of emergency room nurses and their job Satisfaction from 5 November to 20 December, 2004.
The samples were composed of 133 emergency room nurses who were working at the general hospitals in Daegu and Kungpook province by questionnair.
The results of this study were as follows ;
The total mean score of perceived work stress was 143.71 in emergency room nurses. In term of nursing work area, night duty(2.81) was the most stressful factor. in the next, inappropriate reward(2.80), relational conflict with doctors(2.72) were appeared. on the other hand, unsuitable physical ward environments(2,41) were the least stressful factor.
The total mean score of job satisfaction was 2.79. In the sub-scales, personal interrelationship was the highest and the next were self-regulation, professional position.

There was significant negative correlation(-0.321) between work stress and job satisfaction, among job satisfaction category, wage and promotion areas were highest correlation with stress for inappropriate reward. and the stress result from unsuitable physical ward environments were high negative correlation with stress of professional role conflict.
There was negative correlation(-0.209) between job satisfaction for professional position and stress for heavy work load and night duty, also job satisfaction for relationship with others had negative correlation(-0.275) with heavy work load and night duty.
And job satisfaction in an administration area was negative correlation with stress related to inadequate wage.
There was significant negative correlation between perceived work stress of Emergency Room nurses and their job satisfaction. therefore, this study indicates that the more stress nurses perceive, the less job satisfaction they have.
