부모-자녀 간 논쟁성향 및 언어적 공격성향의 관계

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 연구는 토론의 중요성이 점차 커지고 토론에 대한 관심이 확산되어 가는 시점에서, 토론수행과 관련이 있는 논쟁성향과 언어적 공격성향에 대한 연구의 필요성을 제기했다. 또한 미국을 중심으로 비교적 많은 연구가 이뤄진 데 반해 국내에서는 거의 다뤄지지 않았음을 인식하고, 국내에서 부모의 논쟁성향 및 언어적 공격성향이 자녀의 논쟁성향 및 언어적 공격성향과 어떤 관계가 있는지를 살펴보고자 하였다. 이를 통하여 부모의 의사소통 관련 성향이 자녀의 의사소통 관련 성향에 미치는 영향력을 추론해보고자 하였다. 이를 위해 본 연구에서는 반두라의 사회학습이론을 바탕으로 부모의 커뮤니케이션 성향이 자녀의 커뮤니케이션 성향에 영향을 미칠 것으로 예측했다. 그 결과 한국 내에서는 아버지의 논쟁성향이 아들과 딸에게 영향을 미치는 반면, 어머니의 언어적 공격성향은 딸의 언어적 공격성향에 영향을 미치는 것을 알 수 있었다. 연구결과를 토대로 토론과 관련된 바람직한 성향으로서의 논쟁성향과 파괴적 성향으로서의 언어적 공격성향이 가정 내에서 부모로부터 영향을 받기때문에 가정 내에서 논쟁 성향을 함양하고 언어적 공격성향을 줄여 나가는 것이 중요함을 강조했다. 아울러 본 연구와 관련된 문제점을 지적하고 관련된 후속 연구가 고려해야 할 문제점에 대해 논의하였다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

The main purpose of the current study was to examine relationships between argumentativeness and verbal aggressiveness of parents and their offsprings considered to be related with debate performance as our society is realizing the importance of the roles that debate should be playing within our society. In spite of an urgent need for the understanding relationships how communicative traits such as parents’ argumentativeness and verbal aggressiveness influence on their offsprings’ traits, few domestic studies have focused on the relationships within Korean society. Based on Bandura’s social learning theory, we assumed that the offsprings would model themselves after their parents’ communicative behaviors such as daily debates which we believe would be reflecting these traits. Results showed that the father’s argumentativeness was positively related with argumentativeness of the son and daughter whereas the mother’s verbal aggressiveness was positively related only with verbal aggressiveness of her daughter. Although the cross relationships that the parents’ argumentativeness have with the offsprings’ verbal aggressiveness and vice versa were not significant, it is premature to conclude that no relationships exist between the two. Some other findings and limitations were discussed and suggestions for future studies were made.
