The purpose of this paper is to review the study history on Dasan(茶山丁若鏞)`s theory about reading and writing. I tried to summarize various discussions that we have tried in this field so far on Dasan`s theories about reading and writing. And I hope we can see what will be next issue through this inquiry. But I realized again that it will take my life time to finish this work because reading Dasan`s whole works and checking the books that Dasan himself read will take a lot of time. In this paper, I focused on his opinion about reading and writing revealed in his various forms of writings which were attached to his poetries. In his life(1762-1836), the bibliographical studies from Qing(淸) was introduced and the books from China and Japan were actively imported to Joeson(朝鮮). And problems of Neo-Confucianism(性理學) and national civil service examination were exposed. In these circumstances, Dasan`s study made progress as reactions to solve the problems in those days. When Dasan read and wrote a book, his main concern was putting the theories into practice and making every people enrich his life. He thought the most important things in reading and writing are ``a critical mind`` and ``a fundamental stance``. He thought however many books you read, it can be nothing, if you don`t have any critical mind, and when you write a book, you should make clear the character of the book, so you can organize the order of the book according to that character. Despite of hardships of being exiled, he wrote many important works due to his clear purpose of writing, continuos research, systemic writing plan, intensive work, and continuos revision.
