Monggu(蒙求)edited by Li Han(李瀚) had a great deal of influence on the East Asian countries as a educational book, and not a few companion volumes and annotated editions were published in those countries including Joseon dynasty. Monggv-juhao(蒙求註解, Mongu with notes) by Hong Ikju(洪翼周) is well known as a annotated edition to Monggu, and Sok-Monggu-bunju(續蒙求分註, a companion volume to Mongu with notes) by Ryu Huichun(柳希春, 1513~1577). as a companion volume. This paper is to survey the structure of rhyme of sentences in Sok-Monggu-bunjju, and to consider its proper position among the series of companion volumes to Mongu. Sok-Monggu, which formally tried to follow the structure of rhyme of Monggu. at once aimed to contain the philosophy of Sunjeong-Monggu(鈍正蒙求) which was edited by Hu Bingwen(胡炳文) under an intention to compile the stories concerning Confucian teaching. That was the reason why, Sok-Monggu couldn`t but restrictively adopted the phonological structure of sentences in Monggu. Some notable features of Sok-Monggu both formally and substantially are as follow. Formally. rhyme was changed in every two lines, but the order of rhyme was not considered as was exemplified in Monggu to be ping(平)-shang(上)-ping(平)-qu(去)-ping(平)-ru(入) from the first line to the 168th line, and ping(平)-shang(上)-qu(去)-ru(入) from the 169th line to the last 296th line. Also, the epilogue rhymed ``選`` with ``面``, which was. strictly speaking, against the rules, while Monggu added at last a rhymed verse. Substantially, the stories which represented the desirable human characters that were proposed by Neo-Confucianism were integrated, and comments and estimations were added as well. while Monggu, though it had collected moral stories on the whole, lacked consistency in its subject. It is need to inquire further however, whether it was edited under a certain subject as seen in Sunjeong-Monggu.
