Publication of Chosun poetry in Ming was studied analyzing both the exterior and interior factors which led to such cultural activity. In contrast to the previous research based on the perspectives of Chosun literary world, I focused on why the Ming literary world became interested in Chosun poetry. Enhanced cultural exchange due to the war and increased interest in Chosun literature within Ming were effective in introducing Chosun poetry to Ming. Ming generals dispatched to Chosun during the Japanese invasion returned and published Chosun-related books including collections of Chosun poetry. Active exchange of envoys resulted in Ming writers writing the prefaces for the editions of Chosun poetry and publishing poetry collections of Chosun writers. Such external factors played a significant role in the literature exchange between the countries. Internally, the self-esteem of Ming writers that Jizi introduced Chinese culture to Chosun and their eagerness to succeed to the poetry-collecting tradition (Caishi) in Zhou dynasty. In addition, Ming writers appreciated the characteristics of Chosun poetry well expressing the aesthetics of nature, which was emphasized in the Feng of the Shib Ching. It can be argued that such characteristics of Chosun poetry charmed Ming writers considering that they were pursuing true poetry (Zhenshi) regardless of literary branches.
