정치인의 퍼스널 커뮤니티와 네트워크 공론장으로서 트위터의 가능성

국문 초록 (Abstract)

이 논문은 트위터가 하나의 정치적 현상이 되고 있는 상황에서 트위터의 커뮤니케이션 구조를 살펴보고, 트위터라는 소셜 네트워크 서비스가 만들어내는 퍼스널 커뮤니티의 특성과 네트워크 공론장의 가능성에 대해 논의하였다. 이를 바탕으로 정치인의 트위터 네트워크를 사례분석하였다. 트위터는 네트워크의 중심이 되는 정치인 개인의 트위터에 대한 태도나 커뮤니케이션 방식에 따라 상이한 성격의 퍼스널 커뮤니티를 형성하는데, 정치인의 퍼스널 커뮤니티는 일종의 사교적 습관행위인 트윗을 통해 구성되고 유지되고 강화되는 정서적 커뮤니티가 될 수도 있고, 특정 이슈에 관한 정보를 공유하고 의견을 교환하며 토론하는 네트워크 공론장의 가능성을 보이기도 한다. 그럼에도 불구하고 정치인의 퍼스널 커뮤니티는 정치적 성향이나 이념이 동질적인 호모필리 현상을 보여주고 있어 공론장으로서의 한계 역시 지니고 있다. 이런 점에서 트위터 역시 다양한 이용의 맥락과 경험에서 변주되고 진화하는 하나의 매개체임을 보여준다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

Social Network Services are increasingly attracting attentions from academia as well as politicians. By conducting a case study of politicians' Twitter network, this paper discusses on the Twitter's communication structure and examines the possibility of Twitter as personal political communities and/or networked public spheres. Personal communities are constructed differently depending on politicians' attitudes toward Twitter and their communication styles. Some are emotional communities where social ties between politicians and their followers are formed by habitual communicative acts such as tweets, retweets, and mentions. Others work as networked public spheres where political issues are discussed and exchanged. However, most personal communities still tend to be homophily, which means a tendency that a contact between similar people occurs at a higher rate than among dissimilar people. To sum up, Twitter, still in progress like any other SNS, shows both potentials and limitations as a political communication channel.
