    The purpose of this study was to investigate the effectiveness of using digital textbooks on learning outcomes from the perspective of instructional guidance. This study, therefore, examined the effects of types of digital textbook use (teacher demonstration, students application, control group) and level of prior academic achievement (high, low) on attitude toward mathematics, intrinsic motivation on mathematics, and academic achievement. Participants in this study were a total of 293 5th grade students from three elementary schools. Results showed that students in the group of students application earned significantly higher scores on the academic achievement test than those studying in the control group. Only students with low level of prior academic achievement also earned higher scores on the academic achievement test than those in the control group. However, no significant difference was found between types of digital text book use on attitude toward mathematics and intrinsic motivation. One important implication of the findings is that a complete guidance with the opportunities of students applications should be provided for the effective use of digital text book at classrooms. Results also imply that students with low levels of achievement can benefit most from the applications of the digital textbook.
