열하일기, 그 ‘매끄러운 공간’ 속으로 = Essay on the Encountering of Yolha-Ilgi and Animation

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

In a process of researching the vision of post-modernism, I came across the history of intelligence in East-Asia. It is Yolha-Ilgi that I met on the way over there. In a word, the aesthetic property of Yolha-Ilgi is ‘overflowing humour, pathetic paradox’. Therefore, it should join animation. The virture of animation is that it traverse boundaries of emotion, the real and the fantastic. In this respect, I have made up main charaters and story-line. I hope that Yolha-Ilgi will take its position as ‘future in the past’.

국문 초록 (Abstract)

근대의 경계를 넘어 탈근대적 비전을 모색하는 과정에서 동아시아 지성사의 교해(敎海)와 마주쳤다. 그 과정에서 만난 텍스트가 열하일기다. 열하일기의 미적 특질을 한마디로 규정한다면, ‘범람하는 유머, 열정의 패러독스’라고 할 수 있다. 동영상 가운데서도 특히 애니메이션이라는 표현형식을 만나야 하는 이유도 거기에 있다. 애니메이션의 특성은 경계를 넘나들 수 있다는 데에 있다. 리얼한 것과 환타스틱한 것 사이를 종횡무진 누빌 수 있고, 감각들 사이를 자유롭게 왕래할 수 있는 것이야말로 애니메이션의 미덕이다. 이런 관점에서 열하일기의 주요 캐릭터와 스토리라인을 구성해보았다. 애니메이션이라는 형식을 통해 열하일기가 진정 ‘오래된 미래’로 자리 잡게 되기를 희망한다.
