I discussed about the tendency of self-censorship during the period of King Yongjo in this paper. It usually happened by Noron party who had major political power at that time. They had different intention as an individual writer, however they tried to share the intention of writing as a group of writers. It was because of their political position. To figure this out, I examined two cases about their literary theory. The one is about Shu Xi. He had great fame as a writer, while rejected by Confucian scholars due to the ideological unconventionality. The other is about Cho Kwi-myung who was also a noted writer at the same period. He tried to unite Buddhist and Taoism with Confucianism in his writings. However, it made him be scorned by Confucian scholars. From these two examples, I inspected the intention of Noron writers. In political view, they tried to conserve Confucianism. And in literary view, they tried to write proses in the lirerate style of Tang-Song.
