퇴계 이황의 유기체 우주론과 생태사상 = Toegye Lee Hwang's Organic Cosmology & Ecological Idea

The thought of unity between Heaven and man that is based on a farmer’s philosophy built in agrarian society made Lee Hwang’s view of the nature or vision of the universe. Lee Hwang’s ecological idea inclines toward metaphysical and ideological intention. And that cannot free itself from a boundary of medieval intellectual’s idealism lived in forests-life environment at five centuries ago. An idea as it is called Man-Mul-IL-Che that all things are one body makes organic cosmology that an ecosystem is connected as one. The idea of Man-Mul-IL-Che is formed by giving an ethical attributes based on the connecting structure of kinship and organic of all beings. We cannot agree to such a meaning of that Man-Mul-IL-Che is one body that all beings have the same substance in one. We should understand that Man-Mul came from the same root and became a great one body by connecting each other without a break. It is worth studying on the concept of Man-Mul-IL-Che standing on that the world of universe and nature is a great family. Lee Hwang is endowed with a rich sensibility of the humanities. The humane sensibilities and ecological thinkings combined and made an aesthetics of symbiosis and mutual reinforcement. Confucianism has a tendency to lay stress on pro-civilization and the realities of life very strong. Man-Mul-IL-Che and many other confucian ideas are sure to contribute to developing the new ecological paradigm.

국문 초록 (Abstract)

농경 사회에서 형성된 농부의 철학에 기초하는 천인합일 사상은 이황의 자연관이나 우주관을 결정지었다. 이황의 생태사상은 다분히 형이상학적 이념 지향이 강하다. 그리고 그것은 5세기 전 산림을 주거 환경으로 하는 중세 지식인의 관념 사유를 넘어서지 못한다. '만물 일체' 사상은 생태계는 하나라는 유기체적 우주관을 형성한다. 장재가 『서명』에서 말한 만물 일체 사상은 모든 존재의 혈연적·유기적 연결 구조에 위에 도덕적 속성을 부여해서 성립한 것이다. '만물 일체'란 말은 모든 존재가 하나로 똑 같은 본체라는 의미에서의 일체가 아니다. 같은 근원에서 나와 서로 연속하여 큰 일체를 이룬다는 뜻으로 이해된다. 우주자연계가 하나의 대가족이라는 관점에서 출발한 만물 일체 개념은 재조명할 가치가 있다. 이황은 인문학적 감수성을 풍부하게 타고났다. 인문학적 감수성이 생태적 사유와 결합하면 '공생'(共生)과 '상생(相生)'의 미학을 만들어 낸다. 유가(儒家)의 철학은 친문명적이고 현실을 지향하는 속성이 강하다. 만물일체를 비롯한 여러 가지 유가적 사유들이 새로운 생태 패러다임의 정립에 기여할 수 있다.
