경험과학적 용서연구의 반성적 고찰과 제언 = Reflective Inquiry on Empirical-Scientific Studies of Forgiveness and Suggestions for following Forgiveness Studies

Forgiveness as one of universal phenomena in human lives had been investigated in the multidisciplinary point of view. In this study, after being examined contemporary trends and features of empirical-scientific researches on forgiveness, the problems that recent empirical-scientific forgiveness studies can confront were reflectively inquired. Lastly, to overcome those problems, some implications and suggestions for future forgiveness research were discussed in the balanced and comprehensive forgiveness understanding point of view.

국문 초록 (Abstract)

인간생활 속에서 나타나는 보편적 한 현상으로서의 용서는 여러 학문적 관점에서 조명되고 그 중요성이 탐구되었다. 본 연구에서는 최근 ‘용서의 이해’, ‘용서의 발달’,‘용서의 과정’, ‘용서의 결과 및 효과’ 등의 영역에서 진행되고 있는 용서에 대한 경험과학적 연구의 현황을 살펴본 뒤, 최근의 경험과학적 용서 연구가 직면할 수 있는 문제를 반성적으로 고찰하였다. 요컨대 용서 개념 이해와 관련하여 용서 이해의 본질적이고 중요한 부분인 ‘가해자에 대해 선의로 반응하는 것’ 보다는 용서 이해의 일부분에 해당하는 자기조력, 자기유익 행동에 치우친 용서이해 즉, 피해자 내면의 미움, 분노, 우울 등 부정적 측면의 제거를 용서로 보는 협소한 용서이해에 귀착될 수 있는 점, 용서의 자연스런 과정을 기술한 용서과정 모형이 용서 증진을 위한 처방적 용서과정 모형으로 그대로 활용되고 있다는 점, 용서 효과검증의 불충분성과 관련하여 용서하는 사람의 개인내적 효과 검증에 치우쳐 대인관계적 측면의 효과검증이나 용서를 구하는 사람, 용서를 받는 사람에게 나타나는 효과 검증을 못하고 있다는 점, 용서 교육이나 상담 등 용서중재(intervention)의 방향과 관련하여 용서를 하는 것 즉 용서의 행동이나 방법에는 초점을 두지만, 용서의 성품이나 태도의 형성에는 무관심하거나 이를 중시하지 않는데서 나타나는 문제점 등이 반성적으로 고찰되었다. 마지막으로 이러한 문제점을 극복하고 용서에 대한 여러 학문적 이해에 내포된 바람직하고 균형된 용서 이해가 촉진되면서 인간생활의 다양한 영역에서 용서가 효과적으로 적용, 실천되도록 하기 위해서 추후 용서연구가 지향해 나갈 방향을 논의하였다.
