韓國初期 基督敎新聞에 대한 考察

It is well recognized that missionary works in Korea aimed at preaching Christianity among Korean people, contributed much to the development of the early Korean Newspapers in the Enlightenment Age. The introduction of expedite the development of printing culture in Korea, but also laid a foundation to promote the publication of newspapers such as the Dokrip-Shinmoon, The Heup-soong-Hwebo, The Maeil-Shinmoon, etc. And the periodicials publicated by the Christian organizations for the purpose of spreading knowledge, were none to second n exercising influences upon Korean people who had been enthusiastic to acquire advanced western culture.
Mr. Appenzeller, a Methodist Missionary, ho had been interested in educational work founded Baejae-Hakdang which had been called "The cradle of education and culture" in Korea. Its meritorious services to the early Korean education and Newspapers are distinguished above all.
Originated by the Chosun Christian-Hwebo, founded in 1897, more than 20 Christian Newspapers have been publicated in Korea up to the present. It is obious that they intended to spread Christianity, but another common characteristics we can easily find out on the early Christian Newspapers would be described as followings; they were designed to give enlightenment and to diffuse scientific knowledge to Korean people.
Missionaries made tremendous efforts to dissiminate general knowledges with printing medium in parallel with preaching in church.
It is actually impossible and unnecessary to study every Christian Newspaper publicated in Korea with regard to its outlook on mission. For most of those newspapers have been put into issuance for a time and soon discontinued without any regularity.
However, the newspapers I select among others stand for early Christian Newspapers publicate in Korea during the period before and after Korea-Japan ANNEXATION, and the Magazines as well as the newspapers that were publicated under the Iapanses oppression in an age of Japanese colonialism, are also included in this study.
A great deal of effort us have been made to obtain the initial number of these Newspapers (first edition). I am now oblized to make it clear that an intensive emphasis with special reference to its outlook on mission, was put upon the Chosun Christian-Hwebo, one of representative Christian newspapers in Korea and the Christian Shinbo which was pulicated after the annexation including The Christ Shinmoon.
Study on Christian newspapers publicated after 8o15 Liberation will be performed in another study.
