This study aimed to understand grandparent raising grandchildren in the right, which means that grandparents live with their grandchildren in parent-absent households. This study also investigated the process of forming
grandparent raising grandchildren and its actual conditions, and the effect of their grandchildren s raising on grandparents. To achieve such goals, I analyzed the program s records that 9 grandparents participated in. The results are as follows. First, the average participant age of grandparent raising grandchildren was 68, and real grandparents have mainly raised their grandchildren, supporting one or three members. Also they have had economic problems because they don t have the sources of their special income. It was shown that this grandparent raising grandchildren was formed when the factors that their children were divorced, and failed in business made them not get in touch with each other and their children became homeless, and when they had to support their grandchildren because of the reason why their children couldn t support their own children in economic conditions after their children s remarriage. Second, as a result of analyzing this grandparent raising grandchildren family s financial, rearing, and living conditions, senescent grandparents had trouble in ensuring their earned income. This grandparent raising grandchildren has long reared their grandchildren for over 10 years, including new-born children to grandchildren aged one or three years. It was also shown that their living conditions have not offered proper conditions to their grandchildren. After all, this grandparent raising grandchildren family s grandparents have not only a rising burden to their own health and their golden years but also a rising burden to their grandchildren s rearing and their financial situation. Finally, when we investigated the effect of their grandchildren s rearing on grandparents, they had little difference from their health and financial conditions before supporting their grandchildren, and they also could not have their own
free time because they have focused all their life on their grandchildren. The relationship of grandparents to their grandchildren had little difference because they have reared them since they were young. They were much more satisfied with their grandchildren when they were good at their studies or depend on their grandparents. Grandparents also had nothing special to do with their children who had left their children in the care of their parents.
