국문 초록 (Abstract)

단일통화의 출범 이후 유로화의 영역은 지속적으로 확장되어 왔다. 유로지역내 환율과 이자율이 안정화되었고, 가격비교를 쉽게 하여 거래를 촉진시켰다. 재정금융의 건전성이 제고되어 역외 교역과 투자도 크게 증대되면서 유로화의 위상도 크게 제고되었다. 본 연구는 유로화의 위상 제고에 영국의 참여가 큰 의미를 지닌다는 점을 인식하고 영국의 선택에 대한 조건을 검토할 것이다. 현재 영국의 결정은 복합적인 경제적 요인에 의해 지연되고 있다. 영국의 선택에는 경제수렴조건의 충족 이외에도 다음과 같은 네 가지 요인들의 변화에 의존할 것이다. 첫째, 유로지역애서 영국의 경제적 비중의 변화이다. 교역의 면에서 감소하는 영국의 비중은 영국의 참여 가능성을 높일 수 있다. 둘째, 단일통화의 채택에 따른 거래비용의 제거를 위한 조치들이다. 셋째, 영국으로의 FDI의 흐름의 변화이다. 마지막으로, 실질화폐로서 유로화의 안정적 정착이 영국의 참여에 대한 변수가 될 것이다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

The realm of EURO has expanded after the departure of single currency. The exchange rate and interest rate have been stabilized and the transactions within intra-EURO area have been facilitated by the convenient price comparison. The status of EURO has been promoted due to the improved soundness of finance and circulation of money and the large increase of trade and investment with extra-EURO area. While perceiving the importance of British participation in the single currency improve the EURO's status, this study will examine the conditions of British choice. At the moment the decision is delayed by the complexity of some economic reasons. Besides fulfilling the economic convergency the choice of Britain depends on the change of the following four factors. First one is the change of economic weight of Britain in EURO area. In the aspect of international trade with EURO area, the diminishing portion of British transactions would increase the possibility of British joining the EURO single currency. Second one is whether there are any measures to eliminate the transaction cost caused by the single currency. Third one is the change in the amount of the FDI flow to Britain. Lastly, the stable settle down of EURO as a international currency would be a important parameter.
