< Yuillok(遊日錄)> is an Japan Sahaeng-Gasa(使行歌辭) which written by Chosun diplomat and this text shows cityscape of Japan in the late 19th century well. The aim of this paper is to examine the characteristics of urban experience and the narrative style of modern Japan and find out the meaning of record of Sahaeng(accompany for official business) through Gasa genre. First characteristic of urban experience is that network between cities was formed tightly because of the development of transportation. Opening port made port cities like Nagasaki, Kobe, Yokohama grew rapidly and Tokyo was privileged as the capital of Japan. Second, we can find the aspect that modern culture was introduced to Japan and urban space was formed. Third, consumption and entertainment spaces for citizen were formed. Meanwhile there are several characteristics of the narrative style in < Yuillok (遊日錄)>. First, the author considered reader`s understanding. Second, the author distinguished between things he saw and things he heard clearly and he wanted to win reader`s confidence. Third, expression of the passing of time has changed and sequence events were reversed. We can find that the author expressed emotions like missing parents and used materials to stimulate female reader`s curiosity. The author was envious of modern Japan, but he looked at barbaric custom of Japan negatively. So this text can be a guide of the new world and a kind of didactic poetry for women.
