『동상기(東廂記)』에 나타나는 문체 실험의 양상 고찰 = A study on the features of Lee ok(李鈺)`s writing style experiment in 『Dongsanggi(東廂記)』

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본고에서는 한문 희곡 『東廂記』를 李鈺의 문체 실험이라는 큰 틀 안에 위치시키고, 그러한 문체 실험의 실제적 양상을 白話文구사 및 우리말의 한자식 표기라는 측면에서 세밀히 검토해보고자 한다. 먼저, 李鈺의 서문을 보면 그는 자신의 작품을 읽게 될 독자들의 반응을 염두에 두고 있었으며, 특히 독자들이 작품의 ''體''에 대해 생소하게 여기리라고 예상하고 있었다. 이를 통해 그가 『東廂記』를 창작한 까닭이 다만 개인적인 ''自娛''의 측면에만 있었던 것이 아니라 새로운 문학 양식 및 문체를 실험하고 타인에게 보이기 위한 것이었음을 알 수 있다. 다음으로 『東廂記』에 나타나는 문체를 면밀히 살펴보면 거의 완전한 白話文으로 되어 있음을 알 수 있다. 어휘나 문법의 측면에서 살펴보았을 때 李鈺의 白話文구사 수준은 상당히 높았으며, 이를 통해 李鈺이 『東廂記』를 짓기 이전에 이미 많은 양의 白話文을 접하고 상당한 습작을 거쳤을 것이리라 유추할 수 있다. 그는 그동안 연마한 문체를 본격적으로 사용함으로써 그의 문체 실험을 널리 광고하고자 야심차게 『東廂記』를 창작했던 것이다. 이처럼 중국의 白話文을 본격적으로 사용하는 데에서 나아가 李鈺은 우리말의 구어를 借字表記등의 방법을 통해 한자로 표기하기도 하였다. 그는 당시 고루한 형식에 매몰된 복고주의에 염증을 느껴 새로운 돌파구를 찾고자 했으며, 문체 실험으로서의 『東廂記』 창작을 통해 문학적 갈증을 해소하고 독자들에게 새로운 문체를 선전하고자 했던 것이다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

The author of 『Dongsanggi(東廂記) 』 has been proved to be Lee Ok(李鈺). Based on established diverse studies on 『Dongsanggi』and discussions on Lee Ok's literature, we now need to search the reason why the author Lee Ok wrote 『Dongsanggi』and the detailed aspects of writing style used in 『Dongsanggi』.First, according to the preface we can find that the author was considering the response of the readers who would read his drama, especially that he was expecting that the readers should feel unfamiliar with the genre or writing style(體) of the work. Through this, we can say that the reason why he obstinately took the unfamiliar genre or writing style is that he wanted to experiment the availability of the new genre or writing style, and by this tried to meet the needs of the readers. Secondly, through a detailed search on the writing style in 『Dongsanggi』, we can find that Lee Ok shows us a high-level command of colloquial Chinese on both sides of vocabulary and grammar. Thus it is certain that Lee Ok had read a lot of writings written in colloquial Chinese and he had already written a considerable amount of practice pieces before he wrote 『Dongsanggi』. And he invented various methods of writing endemic expressions in Joseon using Chinese characters. It seems that he was sick and tired of literature revivalism and wanted to make a breakthrough, so he tried to resolve the literary thirst and propagandize a new writing style to the readers.
