사회적 지지가 조손가족 조부모의손자녀 돌봄보상감에 미치는 영향 = A Study of How Social Support Affects Rewards for Grandparents Who Raise Their Grandchildren

The purpose of this study was to delve into the affective rewards of grandparents who serve as the primary caregivers to their grandchildren. It examined these rewards with regard to the burden of raising their grandchildren and the social support they received.
Data was collected from social welfare and governmental agencies on 440 grandparents in Seoul’s metropolitan area. The findings of the study were as follows: First, the grandparents were asked to rate on a scale from one to five the different aspects of being the primary caregivers of their grandchildren.
Emotional benefits were the most common rewards and physical benefits the least. Secondly, a connection was found between rewards and social support, especially emotional support. More specifically, material support positively correlated with physical rewards and social rewards, and informational support positively correlated with social rewards. These findings were then used to help social welfare workers in their aid of these caregiver grandparents.
