이청준의 이어도 연구 : 초점화와 담론을 중심으로 = A study on Lee Cheongjoon's 『Ieodo』

Writing a novel is a creative process. When an author makes a legend a motive in the present days, he tries to move from the present on to the new world, establishing a new order in the life. In this work, the writer tries to bring the legend which has been dissociated from the real life into our lives and makes it a working moral. This way, the writer is recreating the Ieodo legend. This recreation process employs the narrative level of characters and focalization strategies in the simple legend to suggest the path of life. The main axis starts with the explorative mind journey of Seonwoo Huyen, ending up with the experiences of Ieodo. In case of Chun namseok, Yang Jooho, and the Ieodo woman, the legendary world view restricts their real life.
This way, the writer transforms the legendary power becoming extinct in one culture into a new order in the real life. Hence, it can be said that the writer restructured the legend of Ieodo into a new cultural strata in the present days.
