디자인 구성요소를 활용한 웹툰 섬네일 분석연구 = An Analysis Study on the Webtoon Thumbnail Using Design Components

국문 초록 (Abstract)

웹툰은 독립된 콘텐츠로써 지닌 가치와 함께 타 콘텐츠로 확장이 가능한 트랜스미디어로써의 가치 상승으로 인하여 최근 국내 콘텐츠산업의 핵심 콘텐츠로 당당히 자리를 잡았다. 본 연구는 웹툰 작품 선택 시에 강력한 광고소구로써 영향을 미치는 섬네일을 디자인 관점에서 분석해 보는 것을 목적으로 하는 연구이다. 연구는 섬네일과 섬네일 디자인 구성요소에 대한 이론적 토대를 바탕으로 네이버웹툰 플랫폼의 30개 인기 작품을 대상으로 한다.
분석연구는 선행연구를 근간으로 섬네일의 디자인 구성요소인 이미지, 텍스트 그리고 색상을 중심으로 웹툰 섬네일 분석을 위한 분석 기준을 새롭게 확립하는 것이 첫 번째 단계이다. 두 번째 단계는 확립된 분석 기준을 30개 작품의 섬네일에 적용하여 분석을 진행, 각 디자인 구성요소 세부 항목별로 적용 빈도 중심의 분석 결과와 시사점을 도출하고 정리토록 한다. 마지막 단계는 항목별 분석 결과를 활용한 연결분석을 진행하여 각 디자인 구성요소의 표현 유형에 대한 전체적인 흐름을 파악하고 결과를 정리하는 것으로 전체 분석 과정을 마무리한다.
본 연구를 통해 얻을 수 있는 의의는 크게 두 가지이다. 첫째, 디자인 구성요소의 관점에서 웹툰 섬네일 분석에 적용할 수 있는 분석 기준을 새롭게 제시할 수 있었다는 점. 둘째, 분석 결과를 통하여 섬네일 디자인 구성요소의 특성을 파악할 수 있었고 이를 근거로 선호될 수 있는 웹툰 섬네일의 표현 유형을 제안할 수 있었다는 점이다.
마지막으로 본 연구 결과가 웹툰 섬네일 제작 시 디자인 참고 자료로써 활용되길 바라며 현재 양적 질적으로 부족한 웹툰 관련 연구의 다양성 확보에 일조할 수 있는 기초연구가 될 수 있기를 또한 바란다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

Webtoon have recently established themselves as core content in the domestic content industry due to their value as independent content and the scalability as trans-media. This study aims to analyze thumbnails that have an impact as a powerful advertising device when selecting webtoon from a design perspective. The study targets 30 popular works on the Naver Webtoon platform, based on the theoretical foundation of thumbnail and thumbnail design components.
The first step in the analysis study is to establish a new analysis criterion for webtoon thumbnail analysis, focusing on image, text, and color, which are design components of the thumbnail, based on prior research. The second step is to apply the analysis criteria established for this analysis study to the thumbnails of 30 works, and to derive and organize frequency-oriented analysis results and implications for the details of each design component. The final step is the link analysis with using analysis results of the detail of each design component to understanding the overall flow of each design component’s representation type and organizing the results. By these three steps the entire analysis process is completed.
There are two main meanings that can be obtained from this study. First, we were able to present new analysis criteria that can be used for webtoon thumbnail analysis from the perspective of design components. Second, the characteristics of the thumbnail design components could be identified through the analysis results, and based on this, the preferred expression type of webtoon thumbnail could be suggested.
Finally, we hope that this study will be used as a design reference that can be used in the production of webtoon thumbnail, and it will also be a basic study that can contribute to securing diversity in webtoon-related research that is currently lacking in quantity and quality.
