This study aimed to identify the developmental trajectories of academic effort among college students and to examine the longitudinal changes in college adaptation, academic achievement, and career preparation effort according to these trajectories using data from Waves 9 (freshman year) through 11 (junior year) of the Korean Education Longitudinal Study 2013 (KELS 2013). The sample consisted of 5,908 students, including 2,884 males and 3,024 females. The results of the Growth Mixture Modeling (GMM) analysis revealed three latent classes of academic effort trajectories: the Low-Effort Increasing Group (5.60%), the High-Effort Decreasing Group (3.88%), and the Moderate-Effort Increasing Group (90.52%). Analysis of longitudinal changes across these groups showed that the Low-Effort Increasing Group exhibited increases in college adaptation and career preparation effort from initially low levels, while maintaining a moderate level of academic achievement. The High-Effort Decreasing Group maintained relatively high levels of college adaptation, academic achievement, and career preparation effort, although these variables showed a gradual decline over time. In contrast, the Moderate-Effort Increasing Group demonstrated increases in college adaptation and career preparation effort from moderate levels, whereas academic achievement showed a slight decline from a high initial level. These findings suggest that longitudinal patterns of collegeadaptation, academic achievement, and career preparation effort differ according to students’ academic effort trajectories. By applying Growth Mixture Modeling, this study contributes to a more comprehensive understandingof academic, adaptive, and career development throughout the college years by identifying distinct developmental trajectories of academic effort among college students.
