한국 어머니의 문화가치 측정 도구로서 개인주의-집단주의 척도의 적합성 검증 = Examining the Suitability of the Individualism-Collectivism Scale as a Measure of Cultural Values in Korean Mothers

국문 초록 (Abstract)

부모가 중시하는 문화적 가치는 자녀에게 강조되고 전달되어 자녀의 사회성 및 인지 발달에 다각적 영향을 끼칠 수 있다. 한국 사회는 급격한 산업화 과정에서 문화적 가치의 변화를 보여 왔고 이는 부모들의 양육 방식에도 작용하고 있을 가능성이 있으나 이에 대한 연구는 제한적이었다. 특히 문화적 가치 측정에 주로 사용되어 온 개인주의·집단주의 척도는 부모 표본을 대상으로 적합도와 타당도가 검증된바가 없었다. 본 연구에서는 2023~25년에 15~68개월 자녀를 둔 한국 어머니 497 명을 대상으로 개인주의·집단주의 문화가치 척도를 실시하고 확인적, 탐색적 요인분석을 통해 적합도를 검증하였다. 평가 결과, 기존 32문항 척도가 상정한 4요인구조의 적합도가 매우 낮았고, 축약된 16문항만 고려할 경우 적합도가 개선되었으나 한계가 남아있었고, 4요인 중 유일하게 수평적 집단주의 요인만 측정이 비교적안정적인 것으로 나타났다. 이는 한국 어머니 대상 문화가치 측정에 기존 도구의한계를 보여주고 부모 대상 적합한 문화가치 척도 개발의 필요성을 제기한다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

Parental cultural values may be emphasized and transmitted to children, exerting multifaceted influences on their social and cognitive development. Cultrual values in the Korean society have undergone significant changes due to rapid industrialization, which may be reflected in parenting practices. However, empirical research on this topic remains limited. In particular, the Individualism Collectivism Scale, which has been widely used to assess cultural values, has not been sufficiently validated in parent samples in terms of model fit and construct validity. This study examined the structural validity of the Individualism Collectivism Scale, using comfirmatory and exploratory factor analyses, in 497 Korean mothers of children aged 15-68 months, recruited between 2023 and 2025. The results indicated that the theoretical four-factor structure assumed by the original 32-item scale showed poor model fit, which although improved when the reduced 16-item version was examined, some important limitations remained. Among the four factors, only horizontal collectivism demonstrated relatively stable measurement properties. These findings highlight the limitations of existing measure and the need for a culturally appropriate scale for Korean mothers.
