Background : The use of paper-based prescriptions has presented ongoing challenges, including high storage and disposal costs. To address these issues and enhance efficiency, Samsung Medical Center developed e-PIMS, launched in 2022 as Korea’s first electronic pharmacy management system enabling real-time prescription tracking. This system digitizes pharmacy operations by integrating patient and medication data to optimize workflow. This study aims to evaluate e-PIMS’s operation and user satisfaction, providing foundational data for future improvements and adoption.
Methods : The pharmacy department conducted an online satisfaction survey for pharmacists using e-PIMS, which was implemented in November 2022. The survey consisted of 8 questions and was conducted over 3 days, from October 14 to 16, 2024.
Results : The survey achieved a response rate of 57.9% (80 participants). Regarding workflow improvement, the statement “Using e-PIMS is easier to manage and store than paper prescriptions” received the highest satisfaction score of 4.8 (±0.51). This was followed by “e-PIMS provides easier access to drug information” at 4.7 (±0.54), “e-PIMS reduces processing time compared to paper prescriptions” at 4.5 (±0.72), “e-PIMS makes it easier to track prescription audit history” at 4.1 (±0.72), and “e-PIMS helps prevent dispensing errors” at 3.8 (±0.91). Most items scored above 4.0, indicating positive feedback. In terms of usability, “e-PIMS is easier to learn than paper prescriptions” received the highest score of 4.6 (±0.49), followed by “e-PIMS is less prone to errors compared to paper prescriptions” at 3.8 (±0.71), and “I strongly recommend using e-PIMS” at 4.5 (±0.72).
Conclusion : The study confirms that implementing e-PIMS effectively improves prescription management and enhances the efficiency of prescription review processes. The satisfaction survey results reveal positive feedback from users regarding workflow improvements and usability, demonstrating that e-PIMS successfully reduces unnecessary workloads and processing times.
