디즈니 장편 애니메이션의 여성 캐릭터에서 나타나는 젠더 표현과 연기 양식의 변화 연구 = A Study on Changes in Gender Representation and Acting Styles of Female Characters in Disney Feature-Length Animation

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 연구는 디즈니 장편 애니메이션에 등장하는 여성 캐릭터의 젠더 표현이 어떠한 연기적 양식으로 변화해 왔는지를 분석하고자 하였다. 이를 위해 에니 어그램 성격 유형 이론과 라반 움직임 분석 이론을 결합한 통합적 분석체계를 적용하여, ‘젠더 유형의 변화’, ‘움직임의 질적 변화’, ‘연기적 양식의 변화’라는 관점에서 <백설 공주>, <겨울왕국>, <모아나>, <위시>의 여성 캐릭터를 분석하 였다. 분석 결과, 디즈니 여성 캐릭터의 젠더 표현은 관계 유지와 정서적 수용 을 중심으로 한 연기적 양식에서 출발하여, 자기 통제와 판단을 기반으로 한 연기적 양식을 거쳐, 서사의 전개에 능동적으로 개입하는 연기적 양식으로 확 장되며, 나아가 공동체적 맥락 속에서 문제 해결에 참여하는 연기적 양식으로 재구성되는 양상을 보였다. 이는 디즈니 여성 캐릭터의 젠더 표현이 단순한 성 역할의 변화가 아니라, 성격적 동기와 움직임의 질적 특성이 결합한 연기적 양 식이 점진적으로 변화해 온 과정이라는 점을 보여준다.

This study aims to analyze how the gender representation of female characters in Disney feature-length animations has evolved in terms of acting style within changing socio-cultural contexts. To this end, an integrated analytical framework combining Enneagram personality theory and Laban movement analysis was applied. Based on this framework, female characters in Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs(1937), Frozen(2013), Moana(2016), and Wish(2023) were examined from the perspectives of changes in gender type, qualitative characteristics of movement, and acting style. The results indicate that gender representation in Disney female characters cannot be understood as a simple linear shift from passive to active femininity. Rather, it reflects a continuous process in which acting styles—formed through the interaction between character motivation and the qualitative aspects of movement—have been progressively reconfigured. Initially characterized by acting styles centered on relational harmony and emotional receptivity, these representations evolve into differentiated forms emphasizing self-control and situational responsiveness. Subsequently, they develop into acting styles that actively intervene in narrative progression based on judgment and execution, and further expand into forms that engage in problem-solving within a communal context. These findings suggest that the gender representation of Disney female characters is not merely a transformation of gender roles, but a gradual reconfiguration of acting styles shaped by the interplay between character motivation and embodied movement within specific historical and cultural contexts.
