베트남 유학생의 정신건강의 어려움과 대처 경험에 관한 질적 연구 = A Qualitative Study on Mental Health Difficulties and Coping Experiences of Vietnamese International Students

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 연구는 한국에 거주하는 베트남 유학생이 유학생활 속에서 경험하는 정신건강의 어려움과대처 경험의 탐색을 목적으로 한다. 의도적 표집과 눈덩이 표집을 통해 7명의 연구 참여자를 선정하고 심층 면접으로 자료를 수집하였다. 자료 분석은 Braun & Clarke(2006)의 주제분석 방법을 적용하였다. 분석결과 ‘한국 사회에서 높아진 정신건강에 대한 인식’, ‘일과 학업을 병행하는 유학생활의 부담’, ‘유학생활 속 복합적 위기 경험’, ‘스트레스로 인한 정신적･신체적 건강의손상’, ‘문제해결을 위한 통로 부족’, ‘욕구에 부합한 서비스와 정보의 부족’, ‘여가와 영성 추구를 통해 학업에 집중’ 등 총 7개의 주제가 도출되었다. 연구 결과 베트남 유학생의 정신건강 문제는 경제적 부담, 체류 불안과 진로의 불확실성, 사회적 지지 부족 등 구조적 맥락과 밀접하였다. 특히 베트남과 한국 간 정신건강 인식의 차이로 인해 유학생들은 도움 요청이 어려울 수 있다는 문화적 맥락을 고려해야 할 필요성이 있으며 대학과 지역사회의 연계를 통한 통합적 지원체계 구축이 요구된다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

This study aims to explore the mental health difficulties and coping experiences of Vietnamese international students living in Korea within the context of their study-abroad life. Seven participants were selected through purposive and snowball sampling, and data were collected through in-depth interviews. The data were analyzed using the thematic analysis approach proposed by Braun and Clarke (2006).
The analysis identified seven themes: “increased awareness of mental health in Korean society,” “burden of balancing work and academic life,” “complex crises experienced during study abroad,” “mental and physical health deterioration due to stress,” “lack of channels for problem solving,” “insufficient services and information that meet their needs,” and “focusing on academic goals through leisure activities and spiritual pursuits.” The findings indicate that the mental health difficulties of Vietnamese international students are closely related to structural contexts such as financial burdens, unstable residency status and uncertainty about future careers, and limited social support. In particular, cultural differences in mental health awareness between Vietnam and Korea may make it difficult for students to seek help. The results suggest the need to consider these cultural contexts and to establish integrated support systems through collaboration between universities and local communities.
