This study develops Korean language education content reflecting the job characteristics and safety environments of non-professional employment (E-9) migrant workers in Korean industrial workplaces. Although the number of foreign workers in Korea has increased, Korean language education in industrial settings has remained limited to test preparation and general daily communication. To address this limitation, the study developed job-specific Korean language education content for five major industries mainly employing Employment Permit System (EPS) workers: manufacturing, agriculture and livestock, fisheries, construction, and services.
The content was based on industry-specific structuring, vocabulary learning centered on workplace situations, and the presentation of sentences for immediate use in job contexts. The production process also incorporated micro-learning structures, educational technology, and native-language support. As a result, online content consisting of 15 sessions of “Specialized Korean” and 15 sessions of “Safety Korean” was developed for each industry, producing a total of 150 instructional units. The materials focus on key vocabulary and expressions used in workplace situations and are organized for immediate practical use. AI-based speech recognition and multilingual support in sixteen languages were also incorporated.
This study proposes an educational model for beginner-level learners at the pre-entry or early stages of residence in Korea.
