Purpose: This study aims to analyze trends in data utilization education research conducted in Korea and to explore educational implications.
Design/methodology/data/approach: A systematic literature review was conducted using 113 studies related to data science education published in domestic indexed journals between 2016 and August 2025, which were collected from academic databases. The studies were categorized according to research type, school level, subject domain, and methodological characteristics. In addition, keyword network analysis was employed to identify major themes, with particular attention to teaching practice and development studies.
Findings/Results: Since around 2022, research domains expanded to include science, social studies, and STEAM education. Keyword network analysis revealed that data literacy served as a central theme, connecting concepts such as data visualization and STEAM education. These keywords exhibited high centrality and functioned as core nodes forming clusters within the network. Most studies were conducted at the elementary school level, with the information subject area exhibiting the highest concentration of research. In teaching practice studies, short-term implementations were most common, and small-scale quantitative designs were frequently used to examine learning effects in cognitive and affective domains.
Value: Based on the results, this study suggests the need for systematic instructional design principles, cross-curricular integration models, diverse research methodologies, and refined assessment tools to strengthen data-related education.
