This study aims to investigate the medicinal plant culture and folk remedies of ethnic minorities that have uniquely developed in the Russian Siberian region, characterized by its vast territory and harsh climatic environment. For Siberian indigenous people, plants were not merely resources but essential tools for survival. Their methods of plant utilization, accumulated over thousands of years of experience, form a unique "empirical scientific knowledge system".
This paper compares and analyzes the traditional uses and modern pharmacological efficacies of 13 major medicinal plants, including Rhodiola rosea, Inonotus obliquus (Chaga), and Eleutherococcus senticosus, which grow within the ecological and geographical characteristics of Siberia. The results confirm that these plants contain potent secondary metabolites generated to withstand extreme environments and have been widely used in folk medicine as remedies for fatigue recovery, immunity enhancement, anti-cancer, and anti-inflammatory treatments. Notably, this study identifies that these applications align with the modern medical concept of "Adaptogens" and possess preventive medical value through daily consumption cultures, such as tea.
In conclusion, this study raises the urgent need to systematically record and preserve the medical traditional knowledge of Siberian minorities, which faces the risk of extinction due to rapid modernization. Furthermore, it suggests that this traditional knowledge can be utilized as practical resources for the modern wellness industry and new drug development, beyond serving as mere folklore data.
