다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract) kakao i 다국어 번역

This paper compares and analyzes the characteristics of two works that depict the experience of Japan— Ildongjangyuga(日東壯遊歌) by Kim Ingyeom(1707~1748), a literature clerk of the 11th Tongsinsa (Korean diplomatic mission), and Painting Saroseunggudo(槎路勝區圖) by Yi Seong-rin(1718~1777), a court painter of the 10th Tongsinsa— and examines their significance. This paper first highlights three aspects shared by the two works, each of which has attracted scholarly attention in literary history and art history: their emergence at the closing stage of eighteenth-century Tongsinsa experiences, the authors’ social positions as a ‘seo-eol’ (illegitimate offspring of the yangban class) and a ‘jungin’ (middle-status professional), and their use of non-mainstream genres—vernacular Korean gasa poetry and painting. It then reviews the historical development of the Joseon-era Japanese Tongsinsa and the body of records accumulated in that process, and situates Ildongjangyuga and Saroseunggudo within that tradition. In the main body, the study proceeds to compare the two works step by step, examining the composition of their itineraries, the information and content concerning various locales, and their distinctive modes of expression. As a result, it was confirmed that the two writers, while grounding their works in objective information, captured and transformed Japan’s nature and cultural artifacts into literary works in distinctive ways that reflected their individual perspectives and subjective preferences. Furthermore, significance can be found in the fact that their content and modes of expression embody an intention to understand and accept a foreign nation that had been regarded as hostile.
