The purpose of this study was to focus on the developmental characteristics of children with visual impairment and their difficulties in emotional and social interaction, and to examine assessment tools applicable to music therapy settings while exploring their clinical applicability. This study specifically examined the Assessment of the Quality of Relationship (AQR), one of the assessment tools used in music therapy, through a review of its theoretical background, assessment framework, and relationship development modes, along with a case analysis of a child with visual impairment. The results of the music therapy case analysis indicated that the AQR enables the evaluation of various behavioral modalities—such as bodily engagement, vocalization, use of musical instruments, and emotional expression—according to the developmental level of children with visual impairment, while also allowing for the assessment of the therapist's level of attunement. This study is significant in that it expands the scope of assessment in music therapy for children with visual impairment and provides foundational data for the future development of assessment frameworks.
