｢도산십이곡｣과 ｢성학십도｣와의 내용적 동질성 비교 연구 = A Comparative Study on the Homogeneity between the Dosan 12 Poems and the Ten Diagrams on Sage Learning

국문 초록 (Abstract)

퇴계가 만년에 3년 9개월의 시차를 두고 제작한 ｢도산십이곡｣과 ｢성학십도｣는몇 가지 사실적 정황으로 볼 때 퇴계의 학술적 통찰이 정제된 인지적 결정체로 퇴계의 내적 인지⋅심리 공간 속에 자리 잡은 후 서로 다른 형태로 유사한 내용을 담고 제작되었을 가능성이 매우 크다. 본 고는 이러한 가설이 맞는지 확인하기 위해｢도산십이곡｣의 구조, 기대효과, 일상의 용도, 가사에 ｢성학십도｣의 어떠한 내용들이 투영되어 있는지를 살펴보았다.
｢도산십이곡｣의 지(志)⋅학(學) 구조에는 ｢성학십도｣가 취한 이중구조가 투영되어 있었으며, ｢도산십이곡｣을 통해 세상에 기대한 온유돈후, 감발, 융통에는 ｢ 성학십도｣의 경, 감발천의, 융회관통의 내용이 투영되어 있었고, ｢도산십이곡｣을아침저녁으로 듣고 부르라는 권고에는 일상에서 늘 ｢성학십도｣를 가까이하며 묵상 도구처럼 이용하라는 권고가 투영되어 있었다. 또한, ｢도산십이곡｣의 가사에는1곡에서 12곡까지 모두 ｢성학십도｣의 구체적인 내용이 투영되어 있었다.
결론적으로 ｢도산십이곡｣에 ｢성학십도｣의 내용이 상당한 정도로 투영된 동질성을 확인할 수 있었으며, 두 작품은 퇴계 만년의 동일한 학술적 인지 결정체로부터 서로 다른 형태로 제작되었을 가능성이 매우 크다고 하겠다.

Toegye’s Dosan 12 Poems and Ten Diagrams on Sage Learning, produced in his later years with an interval of three years and nine months between them, were likely created in different forms yet with similar content after Toegye’s scholarly insights were refined into a cognitive crystallization firmly situated within his inner cognitive and psychological space.
This study investigates whether this hypothesis holds true by examining which elements of the Ten Diagrams on Sage Learning are reflected in the structure, intended effects, everyday use, and lyrics of the Dosan 12 Poems.
The structural elements of Will (志) and Learning (學) in the Dosan 12 Poems reflect the dual-structured content found in the Ten Diagrams on Sage Learning. The qualities Toegye hoped to cultivate in the world through the Dosan 12 Poems – Kindness and Generosity (溫柔敦厚), Moral Awakening (感發), and Unity with Nature (融通) - mirror the ideas of the Ten Diagrams on Sage Learning – Reverence (敬), Moral Activation (感發天義), and Unity with the Fundamental Truth (融會貫通). His recommendation to listen to and sing the Dosan 12 Poems every day and night further reflects the idea of keeping the Ten Diagrams on Sage Learning close in daily life, using the song as a tool for contemplative reflection. Furthermore, the lyrics of the Dosan 12 Poems incorporate the elements of the Ten Diagrams on Sage Learning across all twelve poems.
In conclusion, it can be confirmed that the contents of the Ten Diagrams on Sage Learning are significantly reflected in the Dosan 12 Poems, demonstrating their fundamental homogeneity and suggesting that both works, despite their different forms, highly likely originated from the same scholarly cognitive crystallization of Toegye’s later years.
