This study conducted a scoping review to explore how dance as leisure has been addressed in existing literature and to propose a conceptual definition. A total of 3,144 publications published between 2000 and 2025 were iden tified, of which 103 were included in the analysis. The review identified five core attributes: voluntary and non-pro fessional participation, the integration of artistry and physicality, intrinsic enjoyment and flow, social interaction and community experience, and aesthetic embodiment and cultural appreciation. Based on these findings, dance as leisure is conceptualised as ‘a form of leisure in which individuals voluntarily engage in dance or movement, expe riencing artistic expression, emotional enjoyment, social interaction, and cultural appreciation.’ This study clarifies an under-theorised concept and highlights the relevance of dance as leisure at the intersection of cultural and lei sure policy.
