To address the diverse crimes and problems arising in modern society, police employ a variety of organizational and strategic approaches, including community policing, smart policing, and evidence-based policing. However, due to crimes and accidents stemming from the passive attitudes of police officers, citizens are increasingly demanding proactive attitude and intervention. This study aimed to contribute to the conceptual establishment and empirical basis for proactive policing by conducting research on proactive policing, a field that has been under-researched in Korea.
The study results confirmed that job engagement had a statistically significant positive effect on proactive police activities. Furthermore, for police officers with high self-efficacy, increased job engagement more strongly predicted proactive police activities compared to those with low self-efficacy. This suggests that strengthening intrinsic motivation and confidence in job performance is crucial for improving passive attitudes among police officers.
