북한의 한국 근대철학 인식과 개화사상 연구 = North Korea's Perspective on Korean Modern Philosophy and Research on the Enlightenment Thought

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본고는 북한 학계가 한국 근대철학과 개화사상을 어떻게 인식·서술하는지를 계열적으로 검토하고, 그 서술적·방법론적 특징과 한계를 규명하는 것을 목적으로 한다. 북한은 근대철학 사조를 위정척사론·동학·개화사상·애국문화계몽사상 등으로 분류하면서도, 모든 논의에 주체철학과 계급투쟁의 관점을 일관되게 적용하여 인민대중의 자주성과 창조성을 철학사 해석의 중심에 둔다. 이러한 관점은 근대 전환기의 민란·항쟁을 대중의 자발적 계급투쟁으로 긍정적으로 기술하고, 근대사상을 반봉건·반침략·애국·자수자강의 성격으로 통합하는 서술적 근거가 된다. 특히 북한 저술은 갑신정변을 ‘최초의 근대적 부르주아 개혁운동’으로 상징화하고, 김옥균을 개화사상의 전형적 대표로 평가하며 개화파의 사회적 구성과 정치적 결속을 상세히 서술하는 경향을 보인다. 이 과정에서 개화사상의 발생기(1850년대)와 형성기(1870년대)로의 시기 구분, 개화사상이 실학적 요소와 결합해 발전했다는 철학사 인식이 확립되었다. 방법론적으로는 일부 학술 형식의 도입(서론·본론·결론 구조, 통계적 사실 인용 등)과 사료 제시의 확대가 관찰되나, 주체철학과 계급적 틀을 전제함으로써 해석의 다양성과 사료 실증성 측면에서 남한 학계의 실증주의적 접근과 차이를 보인다. 또한 다수의 소논문이 선행 해석을 답습하며, 혁명 전통 창출, 반외세·반제국서사 강화 등 이념적 목적에 따라 발표되고 있다. 결론적으로 본고는 북한의 근대철학사 서술의 이념적 장치와 학술적 성과를 평가하면서, 남북 학술담론의 상호비판적 검토와 외교·경제 관련 사료·통계 자료의 체계적 수집을 통한 실증적 연구 확대가 필요함을 제안한다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

This paper aims to systematically examine how North Korean academia perceives and describes Korean modern philosophy and the Enlightenment (Gaehwa) ideology, and to identify their descriptive and methodological characteristics and limitations. North Korea classifies modern philosophical trends into Wijongcheoksa (Exclusion of heterodoxy and defense of orthodoxy), Donghak, Gaehwa ideology, and patriotic cultural enlightenment thought. North Korea's research on modern philosophy consistently applies the perspectives of Juche philosophy and class struggle, placing the autonomy and creativity of the popular masses at the center of philosophical historical interpretation.
This perspective leads to a positive description of popular uprisings and internal and external struggles during the transition to modernity as spontaneous class struggles of the masses. Furthermore, it provides a narrative basis for integrating modern thought into anti-feudal, anti-invasion, patriotic, and self-reliant characteristics. In particular, North Korea symbolizes the Gapsin Coup as the 'first modern bourgeois reform movement.' It evaluates Kim Ok-gyun as a typical representative of the Gaehwa ideology and focuses its research on the social composition and political cohesion of the Gaehwa faction. Here, the periodization of Gaehwa ideology into its emergence (1850s) and formation (1870s) is established, along with the philosophical understanding that Gaehwa ideology developed in conjunction with Silhak (Practical Learning) elements.
Methodologically, by presupposing Juche philosophy and a class-based framework, it differs from the positivist approach of South Korean academia in terms of interpretive diversity and empirical verification of historical materials. Moreover, numerous short papers follow previous interpretations and are published according to ideological objectives such as creating a revolutionary tradition and strengthening anti-foreign and anti-imperialist narratives.
In conclusion, this paper evaluates the ideological mechanisms and academic achievements of North Korea's historical narration of modern philosophy and proposes the necessity of expanding empirical research through mutual critical review of inter-Korean academic discourse and systematic collection of diplomatic and economic historical and statistical data.
