This study aims to examine the characteristics of Yulgok Yi I’s theory of the mind and moral self-cultivation from the perspective of moral education and to explore practical ways to apply them in contemporary school settings. Yulgok firmly believed in the moral potential of all individuals to become sages, while also acknowledging the realistic limitations posed by human temperament. As a means to overcome these limitations, he proposed the practice of self-discipline (克己) through the correction of one’s qi-based disposition (矯氣質, gyogijil). Based on this concept of “gyogijil,” this study explores applicable strategies within the moral education curriculum and suggests the possibility of an integrated approach between moral instruction and the domain of school life guidance.
