Following the economic crisis of 1997 and the global financial crisis of 2008, the community enterprise project was launched as a blue ocean strategy for income growth and job creation. However, due to factors such as insufficient awareness of community enterprise products, lack of promotion, and small-scale production, the profitability of community enterprises remains low, which has led to a high closure rate. Although numerous studies have attempted to address these issues, most have focused on income enhancement measures for individual community enterprises. In contrast, research on solutions through expanding communities by establishing networks among community enterprises has been insufficient.
Accordingly, this study first conducted in-depth interviews with exemplary community enterprises in selected case regions to accurately identify the current status and challenges of community enterprises. Based on these findings, the study sought ways to enhance the effectiveness and sustainability of community enterprise projects by analyzing various types of cooperative initiatives within Seongseo Maeulnet, where networks among community enterprises have been established. The analysis categorized cooperation into three types: collaboration among community enterprises, collaboration between community enterprises and communities, and collaboration through community activities.
The analysis confirmed several positive outcomes of the community enterprise network, including contributions to community sustainability, income generation, job creation, and local problem-solving. As an improvement strategy for community enterprise projects, this study proposes the expansion of local communities through the establishment and activation of community enterprise networks.
