As the Korean beauty industry continues to specialize, consumer demand and technical advancement in the waxing sector have rapidly increased. However, waxing remains only a minor subject within the national cosmetology certification, resulting in insufficient practical training and qualification management. This situation has raised the need for establishing a dedicated national waxing licensing system.
This study examined waxing practitioners’ perceptions of the necessity of establishing such a system, demographic differences in perception, and the relationship between perceived need and expected effects. A survey of 260 practitioners was analyzed using SPSS 26.0, including descriptive statistics, reliability analysis, t-tests, ANOVA, correlation, and regression analyses.
Results showed high levels of licensing awareness (M = 4.36), perceived need for license establishment (M = 4.00), and expected effects (M = 4.26). Significant differences in perceived need were found by education, career experience, income, and job position (p < .001). In addition, both licensing awareness (β = .273, p < .001) and perceived need (β = .596, p < .001) had significant positive effects on expected effects. These findings indicate that establishing a national waxing licensing system may enhance professional competency, standardize service quality, and strengthen consumer trust.
