To avoid the risk of operating a liquid CO2 storage tank, tank pressure control technology was developed based on 55℃ and pressure between 6 and 8.5 barg, and a knock out drum for solid CO2 collection was installed as a safety facility to capture the generated solid carbon dioxide.
2.06m3 LCO2 storage tank on the scale of Pilot applied with this operational risk avoidance technology was manufactured, and an actual performance test was conducted to verify the avoidance of carbon dioxide generation by utilizing ship motion simulation equipment (6-degrees of freedom motion platform) that can implement the 6-DOF irregular motion of ships according to the largest maritime situation in Korea for demonstration.
As a result of the LCO2 storage tank system performance test, the static inclining test (abnormal operation), the dynamic inclining test (abnormal operation), and the ship motion simulation test (normal operation/abnormal operation) all received satisfaction.
Normal operation of ship motion simulation was confirmed to be normal with operation pressure 6bar to 8.5bar, and as a result of the abnormal operation (PRV operation 3 times), PRV opening was satisfied, PRV setting pressure error was satisfied within ±3% error range with 8.9bar to 9.0bar, PRV Blowdown 8.8bar to 8.3bar, satisfaction within 15% with no dry ice generation Finally, the basic design concept certification(AIP) and design approval of the Korean Ship Class(KR) for the LCO2 storage tank were completed, and the objectivity and suitability of the test were confirmed by the witness of the US Ship Class(ABS) through this ship motion simulation test.
