This study investigates the relationship between Korean language education and the development of Global Competence (GC) among learners in Colombia, which is a region that has received relatively limited research attention. A survey was conducted with 118 Colombian adults to examine the correlations between GC and various factors, including Korean language learning experience, gender, age, English proficiency, digital literacy, and learning motivation. Participants with Korean language learning experience exhibited significantly higher GC scores compared to those without such experience. In addition, integrative motivation and positive beliefs and attitudes toward foreign languages were identified as significant contributors to GC. These findings suggest that Korean language education can play an educational role in enhancing learners’ GC, thereby extending beyond its function as a tool of public diplomacy. In conclusion, this study highlights the potential of such education to serve not only as a tool of public diplomacy but also as a means of fostering learners’ GC. This study also calls for the development of Korean language curricula aligned with the aims of official development assistance, along with the establishment of teacher retraining programs to effectively support their implementation.
