PURPOSE This study aims to analyze the impact of professional sports stadiums on regional development, using the case of ES CON FIELD HOKKAIDO, built in Kitahiroshima City, Hokkaido, Japan. METHOD Based on literature review and field research data, the study qualitatively examined the effects of regional development by classifying them into economic, socio-cultural, and urban planning dimensions. RESULT ES CON FIELD HOKKAIDO achieved notable regional development outcomes through privately led mixed-use development, including increased tourism, enhanced local identity, and restructured urban space. CONCLUSION The findings provide policy implications for utilizing professional sports stadiums as catalysts for regional development in Korea and suggest their potential as integrated components of urban development strategies beyond single-purpose sports facilities.
