The purpose of this study is compare Korean speakers and GPTs’s apology.
We tried to analyze how the apology and apology of Korean speakers created by the AI language model and what the difference means for Korean language education for foreign learners. Apple painting goes beyond just linguistic expressions, and plays an important role in adjusting social relations and relieving conflicts. In particular, apples are a strategic ignition that considers the face of the other person and restores the relationship. In Korean talks, apples are expressed in a very polite and indirect way, which is closely related to important face maintenance in Korean society. This study deals with how Korean apologies are realized differently according to cultural and social contexts, and comparing the apology of the GPT language model with the Korean speaker’s strategy. Research shows that GPT mainly uses “improvement demands” and “understanding” strategies, and tended to focus on problem solving and negotiations. On the other hand, Korean speakers use various strategies such as ‘asking reason’, ‘warning’, ‘rebuilt’ in line with the situation and social relationship, and the expressions of the other person’s feelings are noticeable. In particular, GPT tended to use emotions frequently, while Korean speakers used more strategies to solve problems or to build their opponents than to express emotions in consideration of their face, while Korean speakers are more likely to express their emotions. In this regard, GPT suggests that there is a limit to the cultural sensitivity and social context in the actual Korean discourse. This study emphasizes that apologies created by AI language models such as GPT are limited to reflecting Korean complex social and cultural variables. When using AI for Korean language education, it was not just used as a tool for creating a sentence, but it was confirmed that more sophisticated prompt design and context -based learning materials were needed.
