This study critically examines the reduction of loanword education in the 2022 revised Korean language curriculum and explores practical directions for its sustainability. Since the 7th Curriculum, loanwords have been treated as part of Korean vocabulary and linguistic norms, yet their educational role has diminished in recent years.
The study proposes integrative approaches linking loanword education with vocabulary and orthography instruction. Through this, learners can analyze the structure and meaning of loanwords, evaluate their appropriateness, and understand the principles of spelling conventions. Based on this, two key goals are presented: enhancing effective usage and improving accurate orthographic competence. Furthermore, loanword education should adopt a neutral stance, guiding learners to view loanwords not as improper elements but as valuable linguistic resources that enhance communicative efficiency.
